Finding A Good Plumber

Locating a well qualified plumber takes some research and comparisons. Ask your family members and friends if they have had any experience hiring a plumber that they would recommend to others. Building contractors or real estate agents may also be good sources for referrals. When you ask for plumber recommendations make sure that you ask about the type of job the plumber was hired to do. Also find out if the plumbers area of specialty is commercial or residential.

There are two types of plumbers: those who make repairs, and those who do new construction and re-modelling.

You should verify that the plumber has a license or certification and that there have been no complaints filed. Be certain that the plumber is fully insured and ask to see a copy of the insurance policy. It is also a good idea to check with the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed.

Once you have a list narrowed down to a few plumbers it is time to have them visit your home to provide a written estimate. Make sure that the estimate includes a detailed list of hardware and materials. Ask the plumber what types of materials he will be using. Insist on quality materials, don't be tempted to save money by using inferior products as they will cost you more in the long run.

Remember that the estimate process is an interview. Ask each plumber how long they have been in business and whether or not they will obtain any required permits. Don’t fall for them bombarding you with advanced terms - this may sound impressive but does not necessarily mean they are good enough for the job.

Once you have the estimates in hand compare the prices and what you thought about how they replied to your questions. Keep in mind that the lowest price quote isn't always the best deal in the long run. The best qualified plumber may charge a little more, but may be worth it.
